The utter brilliance of Castlevania: Nocturne S1 (and the fucking pox of right-wing YouTubers)
I just rewatched Castelvania: Nocturne's first season, and it's so fucking excellent. Upon first viewing, I already thought it was probably the second-best season of animated Castlevania, but now? I think it's probably the best one.
The character relationships offer so much drama and emotion. The dialogue is both clever/witty AND moving. The directing of the action sequences has always been top-tier on this show, but the vocal performances make them even more engaging and involving. The way they've infused historical context into the story is absolutely brilliant.
Some of the weird story decisions RE: Dracula at the end of the first series' fourth season (not unsatisfying decisions, mind you, but still just... bizarre, if you're adapting this franchise) really stuck the writers in a weird position as far as how to move forward. I could think of maybe three solid possibilities: one which would undermine the ending of S4 completely, one which would require a HUGE leap forward into the modern day, and the third? Is basically what they did.
Bringing in Erzebet Bathory, the primary antagonist of Castlevania: Bloodlines, was certainly a valid approach for how to deal with the Dracula situation. Applying her to the Rondo of Blood/Symphony of the Night era is surprising, but not terribly so; it's not like her historical counterpart didn't already exist. I have some qualms with HOW they did this (why is she Russian now instead of Hungarian.... ?), but there's no denying that she serves as an effective antagonist.
Look at that; that's literally Maria's design in "Nocturne" right there.
As a fan of the games, this is obviously a different world but still an extremely familiar one. Seasons 3 and 4 of the first series felt like we were drifting farther and farther away from our roots in the games, but Nocturne brings us closer to that inspiration again. Richter and Maria look like they stepped right out of the PSP's "Dracula X Chronicles," with their costumes nearly identical... though of course, Richter eventually adds and embraces the headband from his original "Rondo" design. Maria is just a handful of years older than she is in Rondo/Dracula X Chronicles, allowing her to be far less of the out-of-place childish cartoon character that she comes off as in Rondo (or Castlevania Judgment, for that matter). I realize that was the POINT of her character in Rondo — to feel like she invaded from a totally different series — but the writers do a great job bringing her in line with the tone and characters of the animated series and overall franchise in Nocturne. The characters' powers and abilities are very much based in the games; we even get an (incredibly rousing!) rendition of "Divine Bloodlines" when Richter pulls off a "Grand Cross"-style magical attack for the first time in his life. It's exhilarating. And that's even without me getting into how Richter uses his triple-knife throw, or how we get the lore of the woefully underrated "Harmony of Dissonance" rolled into this show when a certain character makes a surprise appearance (to my immense delight).
Regarding the original four seasons... "I'm going to eat your soul, shit it out and and use it to smother your fucking girlfriend" was not the kind of dialogue I expected to hear from DEATH, of all people.
There are times in the original four-season run when it feels like it's trying a little too hard to be edgy and grimdark—times when the excessive gore and the insane use of profanity feels like it's screaming "I AM AN ADULT ANIMATED SERIES" in a way that's undermining its best qualities. But Castlevania: Nocturne is too confident to fall into such traps. The gore is there, the profanity is present, but it's only in service of exciting action, consistent characterization, and powerful storytelling; no lingering still shots of blood-spattered cribs for shock value are necessary. It's just a smash from start to finish, and after each episode, I find myself pondering the implications of certain lines and stories — thinking about the goddamn philosophical underpinnings of this animated show based on video games.
Nocturne is a prime example of how and why we're in a golden age of video game adaptions right now. This thing is BEGGING for a deep dive into its world, its lore, and its characters' worldviews. It's the kind of thing that would make for killer YouTube essays exploring all of its facets, because there is just SO MUCH here.
So when I go onto YouTube, and I only find one video that even says "It's not that bad" amidst a goddamned SEA of "This show's writing is shit and this series is fucking woke trash"??? That's when I know WE HAVE FAILED AS A FUCKING SPECIES.
These fucking right-wing YouTube dudebros are ruining our ability to think logically, they are MURDERING our media literacy. They are an absolute cancer. The fact that we don't have strong counterpoints out there against them is a crime; the right-wing grifters have totally conquered the algorithm.
I wish I had the skill or knowledge or even TIME to make videos of my own.
Fucking ugh.
#castlevania#netflix castlevania#castlevania nocturne#castlevania: nocturne#youtube#youtubers#.....it does drive me kind of crazy that the animated Castlevania shows keep insisting on using the imperial measurement system though???#that wouldn't even have existed yet!!!

The first time you met Gojo Satoru, you thought he was a typical basketball captain with a sunny aura emanating from him. He rarely talks to any other classmate; come on, he's so popular.
At that time, it was a nice summer in Tokyo. You and Shoko were cleaning the class, and he suddenly approached you, patted your shoulder, squeezed them a bit, and asked, "What is your Game ID?"
"Excuse me? I don't play such games, Gojo-kun."
"I'll teach you."
Such a weird boy, to be honest.
He brings two PSPs to school so you can play with him during lunch break.
"You know it's illegal to bring a console to school, Gojo-kun."
"Well, I have permission from Yaga-sensei. He gifted me that PSP as my birthday present. Hey, watch out; you'll lose."
He memorized all the gaming YouTubers' names along with their most-watched videos.
He wears a headband while playing games.
He is the leader of a gaming community's gang. It wasn't a bad gang; it was just a group of gamers who loved to share their interests.
He can spend 13 hours playing games on weekends, and he'll come out of his room only when his dad yells at him or when you visit his home.
Sleeping in class has become a habit for him. When he does that, he'll snuggle on your lap to hide his face from Yaga-sensei.
But Yaga-sensei always caught him.
His favorite song is Resident Evil—The Save Room, and he'll play that song while cleaning the classroom.
He always messages you when he's ready to play games. It almost makes you dizzy because he always spams you when you don't reply to him.
Despite how bad you are at the game, he'll teach you patience, talking in soft tones while guiding you step by step.
He rarely opens the mic, but when he does, he'll mock the other players and say how bad they are at the game. He's so aggressive, but you find it cute because he always tries his best not to include you.
"You're my best friend. I would never hurt you. Our team is just stupid; let's play another game, shall we?"
He loves Manga Cafes so much. He always invited you to join him and read all his recommendations.
"This manga is so good, but the MC is so lame and stupid."
Gladly to holding your hands in Akiba and making sure you don't fall or bump into someone else. His palm is so warm and big.
His mom loves you, and whenever he invites you to his mom, Mrs. Gojo will give you a nice and delicious cake along with expensive tea.
"Where's Satoru?" — Geto Suguru.
"He's in the manga cafes, I guess." — Ieiri Shoko.
Absent from school has been your weekly activity with him. But he doesn't want Yaga-sensei to catch you two. So you'll spend your time at his home, eating cake or ice cream, playing games, and taking a nap.
Of course, he didn't do anything else besides playing games or napping. He's a gentleman, after all. A good boy.
You can find him on Reddit.
He uses a combination of your name and his as a password for his computer, he even changes his Game ID to that.
He never cheats at games.
He is an admin of a Discord server and is talking about an underrated game.
"Hey, I know you and Satoru are close like a flower and water. But make sure to not miss my class, okay?" —Yaga-sensei
He hates Gacha games so much. He thought it wasn't a game at all. "My gacha luck is so bad this month. Oh, damn."
He has two different Twitter accounts. One with a cute avatar and only follows you. The other one he uses to share his gaming progress.
Gojo may be in love with you. Because every time you interact with someone else on the Discord server, he'll kick them; remember, he's an admin.
He loves to lean his head against your chest while playing games, and when he falls asleep, you let him be. He’s so dramatic but cute at the same time.
"Hey, I know it sounds crazy and lame, but hear me out. I don't know what will happen to us when we graduate. But I want to be your gaming buddy until we are old. Even if I have dementia, I will find another way to remember you."
"I want to spend my life with you, not only to play games but also to do everything with you. Because I love you."

My Thoughts on Persona 2: Innocent Sin (PSX)
I Think my introduction to the Persona series is quite unique compared to other people. Like many I heard about the series from the modern trilogy (3, 4, 5), The first Persona game I had tried was 4 when Golden was released on Steam, but I never completed it at the time.
(I since have completed 4 by the way, I thought it was fantastic!)
However for whatever reason Persona came back onto my radar around early this year right off the heels of me completing Final Fantasy VIII for the first time, gaining a new appreciation for underrated JRPG's. That's when I thought to myself "why does everyone talk about Persona's 3, 4 and 5, But not 1 or 2?" So I did a little digging and found that the Persona 2 Duology had developed a sort of "cult classic" feel to it and that it had one of the best stories in the whole Megaten franchise. (I can't attest to that as I have only delved into the Persona side of the series as of now, but the rest of the series is now on my list of things to complete). I also learnt that the PSP version of Innocent Sin botched the difficulty of the original PSX version, so that's why I decided to play through the PSX version as my first Persona game.
So what did I think?
Overall I thought it was fantastic! However I have some problems with it. So let's start with that.
Demon Negotiation
This was one of the things I was most excited about going into the game, and I think it does a good job at showcasing the characters personality. However the amount of options that the game gives you is overwhelming and makes you feel like you are just guessing when you are not using a guide for contacts, which is what I ended up doing because I got too frustrated with contacting.
(4 options per character, including pairing them up... oh man...)
However I found ways of working around it. If I ever wanted Tarot cards I would end up going to the Abandoned Factory, making a contract with a demon, and then farm Free Tarot from them to use them on whatever personas I wanted. I also ended up using the Prime and Ultimate personas often as they were pretty good while not requiring any fusing.
Overall Slowness
There were many times in the game when I thought that the game felt sluggish. One of them involves the encounter rate. Now listen, I'm a little crazy and I would say I love random encounters in JRPG's and I don't even care about high encounter rates, which this game notoriously has (even though I don't think its that bad), but in the PSX version there is this noticeable pause between getting the encounter and the game putting you into the transition, which threw me off a couple times, but I got used to it. What really bothered me was the lack of a minimap in the PSX version, which as a first time Megaten-er, gave me a sort of hard time. Very often I would have to pull up the map, which took a second or so, but it got annoying quick. What I find particularly confusing in hindsight was that the previous game, Revelations: Persona, had a minimap, so I think its a bit strange that they decided that they didn't need one for the sequel.
(This was also one of those things that was fixed in the PSP version, but I think the PSX version is still worth playing over it, but thats a discussion for another time).
There are also moments in the game that I felt dragged a little bit. Like around the middle of the game after Aoba Park where you go to defuse the bombs around Sumaru in places like Smile Hirasaka and GOLD that I didn't find super interesting. Or places like Xibalba where it just feels like its going on forever. It felt like I was just going through the motions.
Aaaand thats about all the problems I had with it.
"Wait that's all that you had problems with?"
Yup! I think this is one of my favorite RPG's that I have played in recent memory. It's time to talk about what I loved.
The Setting
This is something I think the original Persona trilogy does extremely well, These games have some of my favorite dungeons in any RPG i've ever played, especially the Persona 2 Duology. It reminds me a lot of the MOTHER series in the way that the dungeons are (mostly) grounded in reality with the obvious exceptions. Like one moment you are running around the club and the next you are trying to save kids in an Aerospace Museum. Then you are running up Mt. Katasumuri in the deep forest. Or you are exploring the aforementioned Abandoned Factory with some of the most kickass music ever heard in a video game. Sumaru City as a whole is one of my favorite settings in a videogame.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/c441c48bcc922b74a6c59941297d435a/7e85420fd3c319ca-da/s400x600/efbd0f216e9d5bb8f736255cfa53e8d3aa4f14a2.webp)
The Music and Tone
The music in this game is incredible, 'nuff said. Every dungeon I entered I was excited to hear what banger was about to come on and I was treated almost every single time. Sometimes the music is a jamfest like with the Abandoned Factory or Smile Hirasaka. Or sometimes is melancholic and sombre like Mt. Iwato or Aoba Park.
I think the music represents the tone/atmosphere of the game incredibly well. Dark, but with plenty of cool or humorous moments to not make it completely depressing.
Now I don't think that the story of Innocent Sin is the "darkest best story in the whole francise" as many try and sell it to be. But they would be correct in the fact that Innocent Sin definitely has Dark or Sad undertones that make it one of the most emotionally investing stories. Oh I should probably talk about what I thought of the story...
The Story
It's really good, like it was one of the main driving forces as to why I wanted to complete the game. I won't go into spoilers here but all I will say is that I loved the way the game balanced out the serious stuff with a lot of humorous things. The concept of rumors becoming real is such a cool idea and I think they knocked it out of the park, starting with relatively small stuff like "I heard this ramen shop sells weapons", and having it escalate to something being a whole threat to the world, made it really investing.
The characters too, are fantastic. They all feel like family and I couldn't help but care about each and every single one of them. They all have such great chemistry and I loved having them as the party.
One character I really fell in love with was Tatsuya himself, because unlike other silent protagonists like him, he feels like an actual persona and not someone you are just supposed to self-insert yourself into. He has his own personality and past, you learn throughout the story how much he cares about his friends and his determination to protect them all, evident through how he carries his zippo lighter everywhere, which I wont mention the lore significance of. And all of this is not even including his involment in Eternal Punishment where he really gets his time to shine, but this review isn't about Eternal Punishment so lets leave it at that.
Eikichi is a lovable guy and I love his personality (and his weapon is badass too), same with Lisa where I felt her whole romance with Tatsuya was done very well in that it dosen't get in the way of her main personality, I really liked her chemistry with Eikichi.
Maya is a person who I really ended up caring for and I love how she acted as the big sister or leader of the group often, Without going into too much detail, this group really loves Maya and that connection is something I really enjoyed and it made me care about Maya a lot as well.
I also want to use this opportunity to talk about something that I think the Original Persona Trilogy does that's cool in hindsight. They all feel really connected, it's really cool how Yukino from Persona 1 is just a party member again and you get to see how she grew, and just being able to see the P1 cast around Sumaru and how they are doing in life. It makes the world feel lived in, and like every game and the stories in them matter. And that world building is something that I feel like is sadly lacking in the later entries.
Overall this game is worth playing for the characters and story alone.
CUSTOMIZATION!!!!
This will be the last thing I talk about to keep things a little short but I'm just going to say that the customization in this game is some of the most fun things about it.
The fact that everybody can change their personas is MASSIVE and SO MUCH FUN.
I often found myself thinking "OH! If i fuse that guy I could do THAT fusion spell, or I could get THAT spell that would be really good"
And the fact that they can swap personas ON THE FLY gives me a customization rush that I haven't felt since playing with Final Fantasy VI's Espers or Final Fantasy V's Jobs.
I could swap a character from being a healer to damage dealer or debuffer and there was no limit to how I could do it. It was fantastic.
And Im gonna use this oppertunity to talk about the combat because in the PSX version I find that it's really smooth and fun to do once you get the hang of it.
And Fusion Spells are such a cool mechanic, it reminds me a lot of the Dual and Triple Tech's in Chrono Trigger and I was all for it!
And of course, shoutouts to Nova Kaiser being one of the coolest spells in and RPG, its so satisfying to use.
Conclusions
I love this game, and I couldn't think of a better way to be introduced to the series. After I beat Innocent Sin I immediatley went and beat Eternal Punishment, and then Persona 1 right after that.
The Original Trilogy is something that I think deserves to be remembered and praised, as they are magnificent games that I think unfortunatley are not as accessable to a general audience.
But I implore to whoever cared enough to read this to give it a shot.
I do think that the PSX version of Innocent Sin is the best because the PSP's botched difficulty is not the only problem I have with the port. The menus feel awful to go through, and I feel like Atlus knew that too and fixed it with Eternal Punishment PSP and made it more like the PSX menus. But at the end of the day IS PSP has a better translation, more quality of life, new bonus content and remastered music which is also pretty good, so whatever version you prefer is the best version.
So Please give Persona 2: Innocent Sin, and the rest of the Original Trilogy a shot, you might find a gem and a new incredible JRPG that you never knew you would like just like I have.

i believe i asked for a8 c10 c11 and d2, if im not remembering correctly you can answer any 4 you want, go nuts
THKANS
A8 favourite song
so many i will say. Your Knife Feels Good by hideki naganuma off kurohyou 1 but k1 is in general has one of the best soundtracks i think that one is a good pick because its a clean fav for a lot of people . Muppet by Rize from k1 and Born to Be Wild by shonen no kaze from kurohyou 2 are also really good title themes/final boss themes. and from the mainline i like evil itself from yakuza 2 its on some 2000s nu metal skater game shit
c10 which game do you think should get a remake
uhh kurohyou.... its so good but its on th fucking psp and didnt get an international release and 1) that means nobody plays it and i need people to play it and care about it because its so good and i love it 2) fuckass psp limitations do not hinder the enjoyment but you keep thinking to yourself man this could be so much better if it wasnt made for the psp like with fixed camera angles, not having a 3d map and minigames like kareoke being just like 1 button mash with no actual kareoke songs. i canteven give a mainline answer because nothing is more improtant to me than this fuck kiwami 3 give me a kurohyou remaster please dear god
c11 best and worst taste in clothing
this makes me think of the arakawa vs ryuji fashion poll where someone said "all to back a guy wearing three shades of off white" about ryuji hes not even that bad but i think its really funny. honourable mentions for best taste include oda (i like white suit pants in an aoutfit), y0 nishiki (sells me on him being a fashionable guy), akame (shes so pretty...), arakawa because he is snazzy as fuck wait wait WAIT look at this guy from kurohyou fuckkk kurohyouuu wtfff kurohyouu oh my goddd kurohyou
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/6969a74faf2f34476ff6ce3080d55be3/afeda6e03b348fe5-30/s250x250_c1/d56150c32df9502cfd27c2dc0d6b6867ba9c8b64.webp)
pin stripe black suit pants with the trainers with the chain with the vest jacket with the mohawk... anyways my answer is shishido when hes wearing that silk shirt with the sleeves rolled up and the white pants i cant even tell if thats like an exceptionally good outfit or anything because im too busy having a brain hemmorage but i think that counts towards the quality of the fit
d2 most underrated character
what if i said sometihng about kurohyou again would hthat be fucked up or what. i really like the threee leuitenants though awano was chill af even though he killed that girl and kuze was so awesome and based i think more people should gaf about them. and um. tatsuya from kurohyou because geniunely he is a really compelling protagonist there is a lot to say about him but nobody cares because its kurohyou
ok that is it thank youuu for the ask <3
#i think ythe thing you should take away from this is that i really like kurohyou i really like it so mujch you should play kurohyou#also I DIDNT ACTUALLY EXPECT ANYONETO SEND ASKS i was gonna fill it out like a questionnare straight up so that makes me happy yayy#axe box

Here is a tribute I made to one of the most CRIMINALLY underrated Survival Horror video games of all time, Obscure! Released for the PS2, Wii, PC, and PSP (you can also find both games on Steam). The best way I can describe this game is like Silent Hill and Resident Evil meets The Faculty (1998). The soundtrack as well as the storyline are simply incredible to say the least which is a real shame that not too many people have actually heard of this game, let alone played it!

Just wanted to say how much I appreciate your dives into the dialogue of Tactics Ogre (and the version differences) and all the thought you put into the analysis of it. Its always been a top 5 game for me but seeing you breakdown the elements makes me realize how I only grasped the broad strokes as I rushed through it and thanks to you I get to enjoy it even further. Now if only they gave side characters some love *cough* Jeunan *cough*
Thank you! I'm happy to ramble about the game eternally and I'm glad that it resonates with people. I keep finding new things to ponder every time I play it and Reborn's occasional script differences are very engaging so I'm glad to share them!
I love Jeunan too, he's truly an underrated fav. I'm so glad that they decided to flesh him out more with the Ocionne recruitment and Vasque quest on PSP but I wouldn't have said no to something more with him in Reborn!
Speaking of him, on my Chaos Princess run I've chosen a gate in Heim that I wish I had done on my Lawful run with Jeunan:

This "Steambot Chronicles: Battle Tournament" is one of the few underrated games on PSP. The main task in the game is to win the tournament championship throught fighting using Bumpy Trot, a giant robot mecha. The trot can be customized by upgrading its parts and in order to purchase better equipment, the player has to take jobs by doing quests in exchange of money and reputation. The reputation is used to increase the rank in joining the tournament and challenge higher level robots for better rewards.
Has anyone here played this game before?

Title: Cuteness ACE 3 the final retro
IMPORTANT NOTE: Umm... Before I shared my throwback, I just wanted to say, I'm still not okay from yesterday [CLICK ME!]... 😞😔 I'm still had jealousy feeling from my siblings owing to their own jobs and I DON'T HAVE ONE. My cure from depression is going albeit slow... But, I'll try to dust myself off and standing my two feet. Maybe a nice morning walk will make myself a little better, like what happened in 2022. 🚶
Anyway, enough of my sorrow, let's moved on to my Monday's throwback:
Here's a fun fact of me playing video games: Did you know, 15 years ago, I've played the SUPER underrated mech-based game gem called "Another Century's Episode" franchise exclusively on Sony PlayStation consoles/handhelds (specifically, PS2, PS3 and PSP; PlayStation Portable)? 🤖🎮😁 Yup! It was a lot of fun, at the time when PS2 still going strong (over the new PS3).
• For those who don't know, this Japanese exclusive video game 🇯🇵🎮 was created by the old gaming publisher/company "Banpresto", the same team behind the "Super Robot Wars" franchise (formerly known as "Super Robot Taisen") before Banpresto was merged with "Bandai Namco Games", now called "Bandai Namco Entertainment". Now, ACE (short for "Another Century's Episode") wasn't your typical mech-based chess strategic game like the aforementioned "Super Robot Wars", ACE had a different approach using "Third-Person Shooter" game where you played different mechs based on Japanese most memorable TV Anime Mecha shows like of course "Gundam" (which we're never forget in our hearts as a fan), "Martian Successor Nadesico", "Getter Robo" series, "Eureka Seven" series ,and more... Heck, they even collaborate with Banpresto and Atlus (well known for "Shin Megami Tensei" and "Persona" series) creating their own mechs and characters for the 3rd ACE installment, and its SUPER DOPE in a good way! 😃
BTW: let's not forget "From Software", who also developed the said underrated mech series. Which, you may known today behind "Soulsborne" genre, like the over popular "Elden Ring". ⚔️🏰
• And as you can see, I draw Pocoyo 🔵👶 armoring the "Exblau Form H", along with Kirby ⭐ armoring the "Burning/God Gundam", and two Muglox faries of Mirmo 🪇 and Murumo 🥁 armoring the "Gundam Double X + G-Falcon" and "Freedom Gundam", respectively in a colored-retro style! 🤖😁

Is it nostalgia-bias or was the PSP not way ahead of its time for handheld consoles?
Is it nostalgia-bias, or was the PSP not way ahead of its time for handheld consoles? I remember growing up, I had a DS, gameboy advanced, and a PSP.I don’t remember just how popular the PSP was, but I feel like it was a massively underrated console. I had WWE, several racing games, some mmos, and I don’t remember having any issues playing the games on them. And they were all the disc versions of them. Can someone tell me why I might be wrong? Why isn’t the PSP often in conversation of GOAT handheld gaming devices? Submitted September 06, 2024 at 02:29PM by RAMDownloader https://ift.tt/kPFRZBd via /r/gaming

Games Complete #22 + #23
Game Complete #22: Jean D'Arc (PSP)
I had never heard of this game before and wasn't big on SRPGs, having only ever beat South Park Fractured But Whole, and with this being a PSP game, chances were very slim it would appeal to me. Somehow, it came to PS5/PS Plus and people online said many good things about it, and the way it looked, I wanted to check it out. Then I played the whole thing. Well, almost. You need to level up a lot in this game, and without rewind function this would've made me quit after some time. But being able to rewind and try other actions was very nice to have. I was very surprised by the story as well, and its twists. Recommended.
Game Complete #23: Mafia II Definitive Edition
The final game in the trilogy I hadn't played yet (not counting OG). Started more than once, I finally continued playing it earlier this year, now returned and finally beat it. I didn't like it as much as the other two games, and some later sections showed its age, but in some regards this game is seriously underrated. The DE is a bit botched, but overall looks nicer, so that's why I went with it (on console). Recommend playing it at least for a couple of hours.

With the recent announcement of the Tomb Raider I, II, & III remasters, I decided to break out the old PSP and start playing through the original games.
I forgot how great of a handheld the PSP was. Definitely underrated.
Any other fans of the PSP?

Shuffle your favorite playlist and post the first five songs that come up. Then copy/paste this ask to your favorite mutuals. 🎶🎧💜💙🤗
Thanks for the ask, Rickie! I've shuffled my Spotify 'On Repeat' playlist to give the fairest answer... also exposing my music taste a bit :P
The Living Daylights by A-ha: not to out myself as a James Bond fan, but honestly the opening credit songs always bang, and this one's no exception. The Living Daylights is one of my favourite Bond films (solely because of Timothy Dalton, let's be real) and this song is just as fantastic.
Better Living Through Chemistry by Queens of the Stone Age: one of my favourite alt-rock songs ever made, and that long, long silence before the epic guitar riff at 2:15 is one of my favourite drops in music. The drug references in the lyrics aren't for everyone but hey - they called the album Rated R for a reason, right? (Note: I found this song through the intro of an old Formula One game on the PSP, and now it's stuck in my head whenever I hear the riff.)
Together in Electric Dreams by Phil Oakey and Giorgio Moroder: one of my favourite songs of all time, hands down. Phil Oakey's voice is so smooth and fits perfectly with the synth beat in the background. It massively overshadowed the film Electric Dreams, which it was created specifically for. The film's criminally underrated in my opinion: it may be cheesy, but it's such a cute premise and it's executed brilliantly. Honestly, I've made it my mission to dance with someone to this song at least once in life. I just love it so much.
Dignity by Deacon Blue: this one's my Dad's favourite song - he used to play it to get me to sleep when I was little, and it'd always be playing on the long car rides home from my operations. So it became known as 'my surgery song'. Life rambling aside, I just love the lyrics and the sort of happy wistfulness in Ricky Ross and Lorraine McIntosh's voices. It always makes me homesick :(
Don't Delete The Kisses by Wolf Alice: I loved this song as soon as I heard it in Heartstopper - in fact, I'm kind of obsessed with the whole soundtrack. The lyrics are half-mournful, half-hopeful - they always give me a vibe of being slightly drunk and standing outside a party, looking in at all the dancing couples. A great romantic song!
